Review of 'Addicted to You' by Krista and Becca Ritchie

Addicted to You (Addicted #1)
by Krista Ritchie, Becca Ritchie
Release Date: 07/01/13

Summary from Goodreads:

No one would suspect shy Lily Calloway’s biggest secret. While everyone is dancing at college bars, Lily stays in the bathroom. To get laid. Her compulsion leads her to one-night stands, steamy hookups and events she shamefully regrets. The only person who knows her secret happens to have one of his own.

Loren Hale’s best friend is his bottle of bourbon. Lily comes at a close second. For three years, they’ve pretended to be in a real relationship, hiding their addictions from their families. They’ve mastered the art of concealing flasks and random guys that filter in and out of their apartment.

But when they go on a family boat trip, surrounded by open seas and limited male bodies in sight, Lily’s confronted with a big fear. Only one guy onboard can fill her addiction, and she’s sworn off going there with Loren Hale ever again.

Now the only person who can truly help her can barely help himself.

**This is a New Adult book recommended for readers 18 and up**

**My thoughts**

This was one of those books that is difficult, because you get so wrapped up in the main character's world. You are able to feel her pain, even though you are more than likely not a sex addict. You can see the train about to derail and crash and you are aching to stop it, but obviously can't do anything about it. You want to jump in and shake both of them, as well as their families, who are partially responsible for their self-destructive behaviors. Loren and Lily think that they are helping each other, but really, they are exacerbating each other's problems. Not only are they addicted to their vices, but also to each other. One of my favorite Eddie Vedder quotes from the mid-1990s is "You can't save someone else from drowning if you're barely treading water yourself." This couldn't be more true for these two characters.

They are like a bad accident - you just can't pry yourself away from them. I spent a day reading the book, telling myself I needed to go do something else that was productive (shower, clean, eat...). I kept promising myself just one more chapter. But I was too engrossed in the drama and heartache to put it down.

As Loren and Lily ride their rollercoaster of deceit and dependency, they make some unlikely new friends and become further entangled in a new web of problems. The end of this book comes to a satisfying conclusion, but their problems are by no means over. New hurdles are going to present themselves to these two. I hope the series continues, so that I can find out how they handle it.
