Interview with Jennifer Comeaux, Author of 'Life on the Edge'

Welcome to the virtual book tour for 'Life on the Edge' by Jennifer Comeaux. Today, she was kind enough to take the time to answer a few questions for us readers.

What was the inspiration behind Life on the Edge?

I’m a huge figure skating fan, and often when I listen to music, I imagine a fictional pair skating to it. That fictional pair grew into a story idea for a romance between a pairs skater and her coach. There aren’t many romances set in the world of figure skating, and in the ones that are out there, usually the skating partners are involved. I thought this would be an interesting new twist.

Who is your favorite character in this book? Least favorite?

My favorite character is Emily because I’ve been in her head for so long and can identify with a lot of her thoughts and feelings. I do also love Chris, too, because of his sense of humor! I don’t think I have a least favorite character. They all have unique qualities that I loved creating!

What is it about ice skating that elicits romantic feelings?

I think it’s the combination of the beautiful music, the costumes, and the love stories the skaters often portray on the ice. The whole package inspires those feelings. If the pairs or ice dance partners have a great connection on the ice, then they bring out even stronger emotions. I think figure skating is the perfect combination of sport and art!

What genre do you like to write the most?

I love to write contemporary romance, usually upper YA or New Adult.

What other projects do you currently have in progress?

The sequel to Life on the Edge, titled Edge of the Past, will be released in a few weeks! And I just started working on the third book in the Edge series.

What are you reading right now?

I have a deep TBR pile and was just trying to decide which book to pick up next. I think it will either be Someone Else’s Fairytale by E.M. Tippetts or Baby Proof by Emily Giffin.

What is the most influential book/author you have ever read? Your favorite author/book?

The most influential book I’ve read has been Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld. It’s not a ground-breaking book, but on a personal level, I read it soon after I started writing again after many years, and the writing style really spoke to me and inspired me. My favorite book of all time is To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s a classic I think everyone should read!

How can writers make themselves stand out in this competitive market?

I’m still trying to figure that out! I think all we can do as writers is put our heart and soul into our work. Readers will see that as they turn the pages, and hopefully it will leave a lasting impression.

What other advice do you have for aspiring writers?

Keep writing and find a critique group you’re comfortable with. I couldn’t get through my stories without friends to brainstorm with me and to critique my work.

What is something readers may not know about you?

As much as I love watching figure skating, I’ve only been on the ice once in my life and I was terrified!
